Los Angeles Westerners Fellowship, Autry National Center

The Los Angeles Westerners is a group dedicated to promoting scholarship about the history of the American West.

The newly added Los Angeles Westerners Fellowship is open to PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers, and independent scholars focusing on the history of the American West.

  • Stipend is $2,500 for one-month residency.
  • Fellows will be expected to be in residence weekdays during the month of July.
  • Fellows will speak about their research at the July meeting of the Los Angeles Westerners.
  • Fellows will submit a brief written report on research completed to the Autry Institute within two weeks of departure.
  • Applicants should describe their research project and clearly indicate the relevance of the collections of the Braun Research Library, the Southwest Museum of the American Indian, the Autry Library, and/or the Museum of the American West to the proposed research in their project descriptions. You may search the library and museum collections online via the Autry National Center’s Collections Online digital database and our Library Catalog.

The application deadline is March 17, 2008; announcement of the award will be no later than April 21 2008. Applications should include:

  • Cover letter indicating mailing address, e-mail address, daytime phone, title of proposal, and preferred dates of research
  • Three-page, double-spaced project description
  • One page CV
  • Two letters of recommendation
