Nathan Colman’s Tallit and Gold-headed Cane

The richness of the Jewish life varied throughout the West, depending upon the skills of community founders and the culture and geography of each region. In larger cities an array of congregations and associations reflected the different religious backgrounds and homelands of their members. In many small towns and rural areas, people of diverse backgrounds often united to support the necessities of Jewish community life.
