Sizzling Summer Nights Featuring Lucky 7
Fresh on the salsa scene, Lucky 7 brings back the multiethnic music fusion of 1950s and ’60s Spanish Harlem and the high-energy sounds of the classic mambo. The band features the haunting harmonies of the vibraphone and features some of the hardest-working musicians in L.A. Their uniquely American-made style draws on the best of Cuban son, African American jazz, and Puerto Rican soul.

For Families: Make Dream Catchers
The exact origins of the dream catcher are unknown; however, legends surrounding dream catchers exist for tribes all across North America. Dream catchers were woven by grandfathers and grandmothers for newborn children and hung above cradleboards to ensure peaceful, beautiful dreams. Examine other Native American artifacts in the galleries and then join us to make a dream catcher of your own. Free with museum admission.

Sharing Our Stories- This seven session workshop teaches adolescent Native youth about the basics of writing a one-act play. Completed works will then receive a public reading by Native Voices at the Autry company members on August 1st.

Granite Frontiers: A Century of Yosemite Climbing

The towering granite walls of Yosemite Valley have proven time and time again the ultimate training ground for climbers. Learn what happens when the gear meets the granite, and explore the full range of today’s climbing equipment. Informal demonstrations will be held in the Showcase Gallery and are provided by REI Outdoor School instructors. No reservations needed.

For Families: Make Clay Pinch Pots
Some early Native American cultures lined their cooking baskets with mud that would harden and create a stronger surface in which to cook. From there developed the art of Native American pottery. The Indians of the Southwest are renowned for their skills in pottery making and design. Visit the Southwest Museum and make a clay pinch pot of your own design.
