The Roots of Music
Folk, Traditional, and Classic

Saturday, May 17 - Huayucaltia
Sunday, June 22 - Roberto Miranda and Cross Cover

2-3:30 pm - Autry National Center, Griffith Park

Clásica is an exciting new series of free concerts presented by The Pasadena Symphony Association exploring the connection between the roots of Latin, Hispanic, Indigenous, and Classical music. Each concert reflects the artistry of our local performers and reveals the powerful effect familial and cultural influences have had upon their music.

Saturday, May 17
Huayucaltia (why-you-call-tia) transcends national, cultural and political barriers through their music. By playing indigenous and contemporary instruments, their compositions strive to blend traditions and dreams, styles and innovation. Rooted on the ideals of the Latin American New Song (nueva cancion or trova) movement of the 1970's, their style is an instrumental fusion of Andean, Afro-Peruvian, jazz, rock and classical influences. 2:00 – 3:30 pm Griffith Park

Sunday, June 22
Roberto Miranda is a dynamic bassist noted for inventive, high-energy improvisations. Adept in soulful passages and fleet percussive lines, and fluent in all jazz idioms, Miranda has toured, played and recorded with an impressive array of jazz artists. He has recorded extensively, including albums with his own group, showcasing his successful blend of African-American, Latin, and experimental jazz. 2:00 – 3:30 pm Griffith Park

Both events are free (Does not include museum admission).
