Examine the legacy of George Catlin's Indian Gallery and learn about the future of Native-sponsored
tribal museums. The panel will include George Gurney, chief curator at the Smithsonian American
Art Museum and curator of George Catlin and His Indian Gallery; Amy Lonetree, assistant professor
of American Indian studies at San Francisco State University; and a representative from a tribal
museum. This event is free for Autry National Center members, $5 for nonmembers.

The Great Plains is coming to the heart of Los Angeles! Feast your eyes and warm your palate during
this evening of art and food. First, tour George Catlin and His Indian Gallery, the new traveling
exhibition from the Smithsonian American Art Museum. This unparalleled collection of paintings will
send you back in time to the American West of the 1830s. To enhance your exploration of the exhibition,
an Antenna Audio Tour will be available. Then join Chef Loretta Oden, host of the upcoming PBS series
Seasoned With Spirit-A Native Cook's Journey, as she prepares and talks about Native foods and their
uniqueness to the American Plains. Taste favorites such as wasna (pemmican) and wojape (berry pudding),
dried vegetables, buffalo, elk, rabbit, squash, and special corn dishes. Don't miss this special event!
