(OUT)LAW & ORDER
|
| |
Where the Code of the West Meets the Code of the Street

(Out)Law & Order is a challenging new American history and theatre project in
three Los Angeles middle schools. The subjects of the program are honor, courage,
violence, and justice—as they were in the Old West, and as they are today in students'
own lives and consciousness. From the perils of the "gunfighter nation," to the
struggles of diverse peoples for their places on America's fiercely "contested Western ground,"
the standards-based (Out)Law & Order program immerses eighth-graders in the myths and
realities of the Western frontier. At the same time, students bring to the classroom their
special knowledge of what it takes to "stand your ground" on the urban frontier. The program
culminates at year-end with student-created (Out)Law & Order plays, performed at the schools
and the Wells Fargo Theatre at the Autry National Center. A 13- minute video promo of the
first year's dramatic performances at the Wells Fargo Theatre is available for viewing.

Chavez Ravine, presented by Culture Clash
|
| |

Culture Clash has spent the past 20 years redefining through theatre how we look at Los Angeles’s
history. Told with a comic touch that uses dazzling physical precision, brutal honesty, and pulse-racing music, Chavez Ravine invites you to examine a significant part of L.A. history through the
eyes of the people who lived it. This is the tale of a poor Latino community with no unified voice
who went up against government, big business, and baseball. From the 1940s to the 1980s, we see all
sides—and decide for ourselves whether Dodger Stadium benefited or destroyed the tight-knit community
of Chavez Ravine. This event is in collaboration with L.A. Theatreworks. Tickets are $20 for Autry
National Center and L.A. Theatreworks subscribers, $30 for nonmembers. To order tickets, visit
www.latw.org or call 310.827.0889.

In the summer of 2002, three young friends came together to form the band known as Pour Habit. They all came from other bands and grouped
their talent into one new sound. Charles (guitar/vocals) and Steve (bass/vocals) previously played with Halfwhite, and Kris (drums) was with
The Definite Measure. Pour Habit is currently looking for other shows to play and hopes to turn up the volume on punk rock.
