Butcher Scholar Award

The Institute for the Study of the American West at the Autry National Center seeks applicants for the Butcher Scholar Award. Established in 2001 by the Women of the West Museum, the Butcher Scholar Award honors the vision, leadership, and generosity of Jane and Charlie Butcher. We welcome applications for innovative projects that promise to deepen our understanding of the history of diverse women in the historical and contemporary West.
The stipend will be up to $5,000, depending on the scope of the project. Residence at the Autry National Center is not required.

Application Procedure
Applications for the 2008-2009 Butcher Scholar Award must be received by May 26, 2008.
Applications should submit project proposals that include the following:
- Three page project description, including focus, work plan, relevance to public audiences, final product(s), and timeline.
- CV/Resumé ‑‑ Include information about previous experience, scholarly exploration, or interests relevant to your project. No more than 2 pages please.
- Two letters of recommendation from persons familiar with your qualifications to design and complete your proposed project. These letters should be sent directly to the Autry National Center.
- Contact information ‑‑ Name, address, phone, fax, and e‑mail address of the applicant.
